Group Therapy
What Is Group Therapy?
Group therapy is a form of counseling where a small group of individuals meet regularly with a therapist to explore shared concerns.
In group therapy, you can:
- Connect with others facing similar issues
- Share your experiences at your own pace
- Learn coping skills and practical tools
- Receive feedback, encouragement, and support
- Practice new ways of relating in a safe environment
Instead of feeling alone with your struggles, you benefit from the insight and support of both the therapist and the group.
What Can a Group Focus On?
Each group is organized around a particular topic or concern. While offerings may vary over time, examples of group focuses include:
- Depression and low mood
- Social anxiety and shyness
- Generalized anxiety and worry
- Stress management and burnout
- Relationship and communication difficulties
- Life transitions and adjustment
Some groups may be time-limited (for a set number of weeks), while others may be ongoing. Please contact us for current group offerings and details.
What to Expect in a Group Session
While each group is unique, you can typically expect:
A small group size
Enough people for rich discussion, but small enough for everyone to participate.
Clear guidelines
The therapist will review group rules (such as confidentiality and respect) so the space feels safe for everyone.
Check-in and discussion
Members may share how they’ve been doing, discuss specific topics, or explore experiences related to the group’s focus.
Skill-building and exercises
Depending on the group, you may learn coping strategies, communication tools, mindfulness practices, or other evidence-based techniques.
Opportunities to share—but no pressure
You can choose how much you participate. Many people prefer to listen at first and share more as they feel comfortable.
You are never required to talk about anything before you are ready.
How We Support a Safe Group Experience
Our goal is to make group therapy feel respectful, supportive, and grounded in a Christ-centered environment. We want you to feel safe to share, listen, and grow—without pressure or judgment.
To support a healthy group experience, we:
- Screen participants to help ensure a good fit for each group
- Set clear expectations and boundaries from the start (confidentiality, respect, and wise sharing)
- Encourage balanced participation so every voice has space to be heard
- Monitor group dynamics and offer gentle guidance to keep the group safe, constructive, and supportive
- Integrate faith thoughtfully—using Christian principles (and prayer when appropriate) in a way that is respectful and never forced
Your comfort, privacy, and emotional safety matter to us.
Is Group Therapy Right for You?
Group therapy may be a good fit if you:
- Want support from others who truly “get it”
- Feel isolated or misunderstood in your current environment
- Want to build confidence in speaking up or expressing yourself
- Are interested in learning and practicing new coping skills
- Would like a structured, supportive space to work on a specific concern
Group therapy can be used on its own or alongside individual counseling.
